Description
Heliconia Wagneriana. Relative to the Banana, the leaves of the Heliconia are usually large and paddle-shaped. It is a tall stately plant which grows to about 6-8 feet tall and is popular for cutting and is used in large flower arrangements. It blooms from January through July, with a peak in April and May, which is why its common name is Easter heliconia. The Heliconia is a genus of about 100 to 200 species of flowering plants native to the tropical Americas and the Pacific Ocean islands west to Indonesia. Common names for the genus include lobster-claws, wild plantains or false bird-of-paradise.
