Description
Japanese fishermen started using green glass floats from 1910 to the 1970's. They were used to keep fishing nets afloat, but due to wear and tear of the nets, many floats escaped and drifted thousands of miles and many years in the ocean before finding their way along shore. For the lucky and determined treasure hunter, these floats can still be found on shorelines today in Japan, Scandinavia, Alaska, Washington, Oregon and here in Hawaii.
I rescued this treasure on Molokai's East end, stuck in the volcanic rocks at waters edge. While photographing it, under natural sunlight, it displayed what looked like energy lines in the foreground from the bubbles and swirls in the glass, almost like the orb had mystical powers.
According to Wikipedia, orbs are often claimed as real evidence of spirit presences supposedly representing the essence or soul of a departed person. A number of paranormal investigators have used digital cameras to attempt to catch images of orbs as proof that a location is haunted, claiming that the orbs or "ectos" are spirits or ghosts appearing in the photograph.

Wow -- very interesting background information. Thanks. I am amazed that these are still being found. My parents used to find them in Alaska in the 60s, but never the years after that. Great capture and lighting! Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!!
