Description
The Royal Poinciana tree can be found all over Hawaii, as well as in many other tropical parts of the world. This huge flowering tree has feathery fern-like leaves. Eventually the tree is covered with large flowers, with four spreading scarlet or orange-red petals, and a fifth upright petal called the standard, which is slightly larger and spotted with yellow and white.
After many years, my Royal is finally blooming. It is now 10 feet tall, started from the seeds I collected from an old tree that was located in front of the main post office in Kaunakakai, on the Hawaiian island of Moloka'i.
