It is a species of agave sometimes known as the "lion's tail", "swan's neck", or "foxtail" for its development of a curved stem. Native to the plateau of central Mexico and is popular as an ornamental plant in gardens here on Molokai.
I've lived in Hawaii since 2002, 1200 feet above sea level, on the small rural island of Moloka'i. It is very quiet here, with only about 7,400 residents.
