WOW --- so beautiful. I've seen the red ones used in arrangements used in resort lobbies, or other large spaces, but I have never been fortunate enough to see the pink variety. Gorgeous. Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!! L/F

Artist's Description

These 4 beautiful waxy pink torch ginger flowers are huge, about a foot across connected to a thick stalk. They almost don't look real. The Torch Ginger comes in several colors; Pink, Red and White. In Hawaiian it is called Awapuhi-ko 'oko' o. This showy pink flower is used in decorative arrangements while the flower buds are edible and are included in certain Southeast Asian dishes. It is also known as Laksa Flower. There're other names for it as well such as Sceptre of the Emperor, Rose de porcelaine, Torch Lily and Philippine Waxflower.

I appreciate the quiet life after spending 35 years as a commercial illustrator, senior art director and design director for major advertising agencies and design studios in Chicago, San Francisco and Palo Alto California. I've always loved cooking. In 2002 that love led me to a degree in the Culinary Arts just before moving to Hawaii. Since then I designed and built a house, worked in local restaurants, self-published three cookbooks, and took up photography as a hobby. Now retired, I spend most of my time developing recipes and photographing them, plus researching and writing...
