Description
The beautiful Hawaiian island of Lāna‘i is my 'Neighbor Island' to the south of Moloka'i where I live.
Archaeological evidence indicates that Hawaiians have lived on the island of Lāna‘i for the past 800 to 1,000 years.
Lāna‘i was developed in the 1920s by James Drummond Dole, who built little bungalows in Lāna‘i City to house his pineapple workers. In 2010, 98 percent of the island of Lāna‘i was purchased from Dole by tech billionaire Larry Ellison, who completely overhauled it.
Visitors who want to get away from it all and enjoy a slower lifestyle are discovering Lāna‘i and Moloka'i.

Beautiful capture and such calm water. Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!
James Temple replied:
I probably should have named this image Calm Before The Storm as it is now raining with 40 foot waves. Mahalo Jane.

Love this James! You have captured the vast blue sky and the sea and the Island that connects them. It reminds me that we are all connected and are neighbors - as we are all connected by the sky and the sea. Wonderful.
James Temple replied:
Mahalo Heidi. Driving down to Kaunakakai this morning I spotted this shot and headed for the pier. The water was like a lake with no waves and the light was perfect. I hoped that a whale would jump up between me and Lanai but I guess that's another shot for another day.
