Description
The white Hibiscus immaculatus, Kokio keo keo, is native to the moist to wet forests of the mountains of Moloka'i. Immaculatus, latin for "without spots" or "pure", is extremely rare and grows in a few valleys here. The single white flowers are pinwheel shaped, up to 4 inches across, and borne at the ends of the branches. The staminal column is white and the flowers are slightly fragrant. I found an old plant in the mountains near my home and made a few cuttings, only one survived but is doing well, and is showing these elegant rare flowers in my yard.
