Description
In Hawaii, the flower worn behind the right ear is for someone who is looking for a mate and the flower worn behind the left ear is for someone who is taken. The reason for the distinction is that the heart is closer to the left side, hence your heart is taken if the flower is worn on the left. An easy way to remember is to think of a wedding ring! However if the flower is worn behind both ears : you are married but still available and worn backward behind your ear : you are available immediately.

Very beautiful and such an iconic Hawaiian image. That belongs on a postcard at the very least, and would look utterly amazing as a mural in a public space. Great description too! Featured in Hawaiiana. Aloha nui!! L/F
